After a 4-Year Delay, Belmont Gears Up to Build Its First Segment of the Mass. Central Rail Trail

A map of the Independence Greenway, which currently exists in two sections in the town of Peabody: the western section extends from the down's western boundary to a park near Interstate 95. The eastern section extends from just east of I-95 to Route 128. A planned extension, shown as a green-dashed line on the map, would extend the eastern portion a little over a mile into the town's center. Another future project, shown as a red-dashed line, would connect the eastern and western segments under an underpass of Interstate 95, and also connect to the Danvers Rail Trail, which extends northward through the town of Danvers.

MassDOT Plans to Bridge A Major Barrier In Border-to-Boston Trail Network

Although the Bruce Freeman Rail Trail bridge over Route 2 is still officially closed for construction, people are making their way around the existing barricades and riding their bikes on it. The left photo shows the paved portion on the south side of Route 2, while the right photo shows the unfinished, gravel portion on the northside just a few feet away. Both photos were taken this past Saturday, June 25th.

New Trails We Can Look Forward to In 2024

Mass. Central Rail Trail in Weston and Waltham.
